Front cover and contents page - Final draft

These are my final drafts of my front page and contents page. I made sure the contents page was all right by ensuring it had capital letters but I didn't feel I wanted another picture. I edited a lot on the front cover and wanted no blank white spaces so filled it all with pictures to make it more interesting. I also changed the fonts   for contrast and to make it more appealing to the reader. I changed the tittle of the magazine to make it more interesting and used a whole different font so it could stand out. I used the same fonts and size on the last two pictures so they related to each other, and a different font and size for the main article. I think they look a lot better then when I first started and I learnt a lot about what should and shouldn't feature on a front page and contents page.  I learnt to proof read very carefully for mistakes, For example capital letters.

Front cover and contents page - Second draft

This is my second draft of the front cover and contents page. The contents page I think is good now, I just need to add one more picture next to the writing and be careful of capital letters. The front cover looks better but it still quite boring. I need to think of a better tittle for my magazine or make the front or writing more interesting. There is also a lot of white space on the front cover that I should fill to make it look more appealing.

Front cover and contents page - 1st draft

This is my first draft of the front cover and contents page. I need to work on the writing on the front cover and put more pictures on the contents page to make it look more interesting. There was also blank spaces on the front cover I should try and work on, just make them over all more interesting.

Pictures for the magazine photoshopped

BEFORE

In this picture I cropped it so not so much of the floor was in the picture as the floor had nothing on it and didn't have much relevance to the picture. I also changed the colour very slightly so it was brighter.

 AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this picture quite a lot as when I took the picture a lot of the surrounding were in it but if I were to use this picture in my magazine I would want have wanted to show the cross as the main focus therefore I wouldn't have wanted things around it.

AFTER

BEFORE

I edited the brightness of this picture as it looks like the corridor gets lighter and looks a lot brighter at the end where the person is standing. This made the picture look different and exciting.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this picture because the bins in the before picture made it look horrible. It draws the attention more to the building. I also made it look a little brighter.

AFTER

 BEFORE

I cropped the gate because I just wanted the gate in my magazine as it is a big focus and says what the whole magazine is about. I changed the colours a bit to make the coloured wands on the gate look brighter as it adds effect to the picture.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this picture as it didn't look very neat and professional with a yellow light in the background.

AFTER

BEFORE

I completely changed the colours into black and white for this picture as it makes it stand out against the other pictures.  As it is very important in the magazine it needs to stand out.

AFTER

BEFORE

I changed the colours in this photo as I wanted the different colours of the chairs to stand out and look bright and vibrant and thought it would make a good picture if they did.

AFTER

BEFORE

I edited this picture to make  the picture look brighter because in the before picture it was very dark in the room and you couldn't really see anything but in the after picture the room is a lot brighter.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this photo to make it look more proffesional as a lot of the carpet was in it before. I also changed the colours to make the laptop and ipads look a bit better as they have a slight shine to them in the after picture.

AFTER

BEFORE

I contrasted the picture slightly to make the room look brighter and more exciting.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this photo slightly so it focused more on the boy and didn't have things like the bin in the background. I also changed the colours to make him look brighter and the background not so dark.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this picture so it focuses more on just the entrance of the school.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped  the picture so it focused on just the girls and the sofas. I also changed the colours to make the girls faces bright and stand out against the darkness of the sofa.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped this picture to focus on the building, I also changed the colours to make the sky look clear which has a nice contrast against the building.

AFTER

BEFORE

I cropped the picture slightly to focus on the boy but  still have some of the background to show his surroundings. I also changed the colours to make him and the background look brighter.

AFTER
These are the pictures I chose to edit because I feel they are the ones that are most important to my magazine and the ones I am more likely to use. Overall I chose to crop and contrast the colours on the pictures I felt looked the best for my magazine. I also think the pictures were very effective as the ones I used gave the front page and contents page the feel I wanted them to have. They also looked plain but interesting at the same time which I think was effective.

Layout of school magazine. Contents page

I have chosen this layout for my contents page as I wanted the masthead to carry on to this page as a theme but without distracting the reader from the articles and pictures. I have chosen to only have two pictures so they don't distract the reader from the titles of the articles but are large enough to see. There is not that much writing on this page. Some articles will be in bold and seem more important so the pictures will link to them. The name of the articles will take up most of the page so the reader can see and concentrate on them which would make them more likely to buy the magazine.  They will also have descriptive headings so the reader can clearly see what the article is about.

Layout of school magazine. Cover page

I have chose to set the cover page out like this with the title of the magazine the biggest thing on the cover page. This helps readers to recognise the magazine and for the reader to know what they are reading. I have then made the main picture and headline the second biggest thing on the cover page to get the readers attention with the picture and the most important story. I have also made the most interesting story the biggest story because it is the one I feel will get the most attention and make readers buy the magazine. I have also used much smaller pictures and articles that are still important and interesting in case the main article wasn't what the reader wanted to read.  This catches the readers attention because they see even more interesting stories they would like to read and they are more likely to buy it.

Homework - Pictures for the school magazine

My school magazine is based around the start of a new year so it welcomes new year 7 students and new year 12 students. This pictures went well with the theme of my magazine because a lot of them showed different facilities in the school. For example the drama barn, the atrium, the food tech rooms etc. I chose to use the other pictures because they show different things about Bishop Ramsey. For example I chose the gates because it links in well with theme of a school magazine. I think my pictures were effective because they show lots of different things about the school and link in well with my stories that I am having in my magazine.
