InDesign practice

Tool bar (left hand side)
1. Black arrow tool selects the object
2. White arrow tool selects the content of the object
3. T/Text tool allows you to draw a text box and then write text. -  When using the text tool, the boxes at the top change to allow you to change font, size etc. 
4. Leading changes the distance between lines of test
5. Rectangle frame tool creates shapes for text or pictures
6. Eye dropper tool allows you to take a colour or formatting from an existing item and apply it to another part of your page

Panel bar (right hand side)
1. Stroke is used if you want a border you select the item you want to apply the border  to then click stroke and change the weight or type etc.
2. Swatch is used to change colours, choose outline or fill colour.
3. To align items to eachother, select them, go to the align panel and select required option.

General tips
  • To add images, click file, place, and search for your images.
  • To move images/text in front of behind another, select the object/text, go to object on the top tool bar and arrange.
  • To include columns, choose object and text frame options.
  • Text wrap - You can wrap a text around a shape or image.
  • To link items together, select them. go to objects on top tool bar, group.
  • If you cant find one of the panels you need, go to windows on the top tool bar  to search for it.
  • If your pictures appear low resolution, go to view on top tool bar, display performance and select high quality display.
