This is the start of my double page spread that I did this week. All I need to do to my double page spread is add my interview and finalise it by adding finishing touches.

Interview questions and draft of front cover
Interview questions
I chose to do these interview questions because I wanted my singer to have a good story and I thought about popular issues in the media and the world today. I know there is a lot about self-harming and bullying to do with teenagers and because my magazine is for older teenagers I thought it would be good to have an interesting story about some of the issues effecting teenagers in the world today. I wanted leading questions instead of set questions as well so you could reply to what they said and make it more interesting. I also wanted my magazine to be on real life so to have an interview about something personal I thought would draw people to the magazine more.
Draft of front cover
I chose to do my front cover in that way because I wanted the main picture to take up the whole of the background because from the magazines I looked at in class and at home most of them had that and it drew peoples attention to the magazine, especially if they like that singer. I also wanted the title of the magazine and the name of the person to take up a lot of room for the audience to be clear about who the magazine features and what type of magazine it is. If they are looking for that particular magazine they would then be able to see what it was called easily Then having the price and barcode smaller was so the person did not look at the price at first and instead got interested in the magazine and then wouldn't care about the price. I also had the star with more information to make it look better and more interesting.

This week
This is my final draft of my front cover. I have finished it this week.
I kept the theme of the colours and the same few fonts of writing as well as using more interesting things like the start to make it look better. I may add to it next week with more pictures of different things.
These are my first draft of my interview:
Interview questions
First ever interview, we do feel honoured
So you’re new to all this music business. How you finding
it?
Well, I didn’t know what I wanted
to do with my life but I heard my favourite singer Demi Lovato because she had
gone through the same thing I had so she inspired me to follow my dreams and
quite frankly I love it.
In what way did she inspire you then?
Obviously she has been
through bullying and mental health problems as well as self-harming and I have
been through similar things and have a similar story as well as my dad dying
and the loss of my dad made me go off the rails.
Sorry for your loss, did your dad dying help you to
follow your dreams?
My dad taught me to never
give up on my dreams even if you get turned down because one day you will get
there.
That’s lovely and very inspiring for all your fans, so
how are you finding fame? Is it what you expected?
To be honest I know other celebrity’s
hate it but I love meeting my fans and telling them my story. I think about
them more as my friends than my fans. I love hearing how I have helped them
through bad parts of their lives more than anything. They’re all such lovely
people and really they are the ones that have helped me.
How has fame changed your life?
Well I just couldn’t tell
you how much its changed my life, words cannot describe it I've gone from living
in a one bedroomed flat with my family to living in a house where everyone is
so much happier and even though it isn’t about the money, money does
help!*laughs* Music has changed my life.
What is it all about then?
Its all about making people
aware, I would never want someone to go through what I have been through and
feel like no one understands so I want them to know that when they listen to my
music even though I am not there with them I understand and hope they can get
through it.
So by the sounds of things most of the reason you are where
you are is because of what you’ve been through?
Yes, talent is talent but it
inspired me. I have more things to write about in songs and I have more
emotions that I channel into my music. If you can sing but can’t write songs I don’t
see the point really! It’s about songs as much as it is about the voice and a lot
of my songs are all based around what I've been through.
So going through them things has helped you in a way?
I guess you could say that,
going through them things has helped get me where I am today; I still wouldn’t wish
it on anyone though. My dad was an amazing man and you never know if he was
still here he might have pushed me to follow my dream!
No of course not, what advice would you give people who
are going through the same type of things?
The most important thing is stay
strong and believe in you. At the end of the day things will get better, maybe
not today maybe not tomorrow but they will get better and if you don’t believe
in yourself who else will believe in you? Every single person is amazing in
this world and never let anyone tell you different.
That’s amazing advice, what are your plans for the
future?
I want to carry on singing,
of course. I plan to tour the world and do more concerts. I want to write more
songs and hopefully make a new album by this time next year. As well as doing
that I'm starting to build up my own charity and awareness for teenagers going
through self-harming and to help parents deal with it. In this way I’m glad I earn
a lot of money because my money can help everyone! Care to chip in?
Well I don’t think I earn as much as you! But I’m sure I can
give a contribution!
Thank you! Every little
helps to be honest! More people just need to be aware!
Definitely, thank you for doing your first ever interview
with us! Must of taken a lot to start talking about your story, I’m sure you
will make a big difference to many people’s lives and good luck with everything
in the future, I’m sure we will be hearing from you soon.
Thank you! You’re right, you
will be hearing from me very soon, and don’t think I’ve forgotten about the
money either!

This week
This week I made a start on editing my pictures and creating the front cover of my magazine.
These are the two pictures I edited:
On both pictures I removed any spots and bags on my models face. On my larger picture I also made her hips look curvy and her legs look slimmer.
This is the beginning of my front cover of my magazine:

I used the picture I edited for the background of my front cover as it was a good picture and you could see all of her and she looks good. I also did the tittle of my magazine in the colours that I want to use throughout my magazine.

This week
This week I decided about what I want my double page spread to include as well as planning what pictures and colours and themes I want throughout my magazine. The reason I spent a week doing this was because I felt it would make it easier for me to be able to do the drafts because it will be clear and well organised.
The picture I want to use on my front cover is:
My plan for the double page spread:
I want to include one big picture on one side with certain quotes from the other page. I am going to set it out as an interview and the interview is going to based on her new life as a celebrity. It will include questions about her new experiences, her best moments and the worst moments.
Layout of the contents page:
I want to have a few pictures on the contents page and have the main story in a different place to the list of the rest of the articles I am going to have in the magazine. I want bolder writing for the article titles and then might have a bit of information about each underneath.
The colours throughout my magazine:
I want to keep a colour code throughout my magazine especially through the front cover and contents page. I will have the same colours for the titles and throughout the double page article including using the same colours for the title and any quotes that have been used in the contents page and front cover.

Some pictures before being edited
These are examples of a few pictures I took, although I took a lot more. I took the pictures at Ruislip High and had them all posed for. There were only a couple when I caught my model off guard and caught her laughing or being natural Taking the pictures did take a long time because I had to keep stopping and starting if I liked her pose but couldn't get the right picture so she had to keep going back. It also took a long time because she had to keep changing outfits and going back to an earlier outfit if I wanted more pictures.

Essay analysing the double page spread
Analyising the double page spread
The two magazines I have analysed are we love pop and Q magazine. We love pop is for the younger generation and you can tell that by the way the colors and pictures are used whereas Q magazine uses duller colors and less pictures so you can tell its for an older generation. The target audience for we love pop is mainly girl teenagers aged between 13 - 16 and the target audience for Q magazine is male and females aged between 20 - 30. The double spread page of we love pop is all about Tulisa and is Tulisa doing an interview with one of the editors of the magazine. The double spread page of Q magazine is about a band called Biffy Clyro also doing an interview with one of the editors of the magazine.
Both double page spreads include one big picture that takes up one whole page of the double paged article. Both magazines use an question and answer interview for their double paged article. We love pop set out their question and answer by having the question in bold pink and the answer in normal black font. They have also used yellow to highlight over the most important things in the answers part but in Q magazine the questions are in bold black font and the answers are in normal black font. However Q magazine uses initials to show who is speaking and to make it clearer to the reader who is answering what part of the question. Both magazines are structured very differently especially as we love pop uses pictures throughout the article whereas Q magazine only uses one big pictures and then the second page is pure writing. This shows the different target audiences as younger audiences would be more interested in seeing more pictures then writing. The questions in we love pop are structured very differently to Q magazine as Q magazine had set questions that were asked. We love pop had questions that were on going, so the answer that was given could then lead on to another question instead of them being set. Both articles use clear titles and quotes so the audience is clear who the article is about and both articles also have a jokey feel to them with the questions asked and answers given. Both magazines used a little symbol to show it was the end of the article.
Q magazine uses one large image that takes up one page. The image has been set and hasn't been taken in natural poses. The way they are acting, with alcohol everywhere, tops off, tattoos all over their bodies also gives the impression what age range the magazine is aimed at, as well as the fact that only one image is used. The image used shows the type of magazine it is and the jokey side of the magazine as one of the band members is wearing fluffy rabbit slippers and they are pulling faces. We love pop uses one large posed picture but unlike Q magazine also uses 10 other pictures. The larger pictures used were posed for in the same photo shoot as the large image that took up one page but the other images were taken naturally by the press or by friends and put in the article because they either had relevance to the questions being asked or a caption used in the article. They did all relate to the article in some way. The natural images taken show a different side to the person being interviewed as well which indicates the target audience as younger people would be more interested in seeing what Tulisa does in her own time and who she hangs out with. We love pop uses a little heart symbol and Q magazine uses a red Q symbol to show it is the end of the article.
We love pop uses very simple words and phrases. The questions asked and answers given are very simple and easy to understand, this is because it is aimed at a younger audience so it has to be easy to read otherwise it will not be enjoyable. The language used in Q magazine is a lot harder to understand and uses swear words in it as well, which shows it is aimed at an older audience because a younger magazine would not use swear words. The language Q magazine uses make it seem like you have to know a lot about the band and the type of music otherwise you would not understand anything about certain questions that they are asking. We love pop uses more open questions and the questions asked are more about Tulisa's life than the specific music genre she performs. The language used shows the different age ranges for each magazine more than anything else in the magazine. Although in both, the language used still carries through the jokey theme seen in other aspects of the articles.
This will affect my own articles because it has made me think more about what I need to include in my article that will target my audience. By looking at the two different articles it has made me realize that I want quite a few pictures in my article but relating to either the artist or the questions I am going to write. It has also made me think that although I want most of them to be posed for I also want more natural ones to tie in with my article. I want the same type of structure as we love pop and want my questions and answers to be very clear to my reader. I will use different colours and fonts for the questions and answers as well as using a symbol that has relevance to my magazine to show when the article is finished as I felt that was an important extra in the article. It will also affect my magazine in the way I use my language as I now want my language to be simple with no swear words so that everyone can understand it. I want my magazine to have a jokey and lively atmosphere to it as I think this worked well in both the articles.
